Rock Hill man pleads guilty to drug dealing in prison: DOJ

SOUTH CAROLINA (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Rock Hill man could face up to 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine for drug possession, according to Adair Ford Boroughs, U.S. Attorney for South Carolina.

Officials say 31-year-old DeQavion Cook pleaded guilty to possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.

According to authorities, Cook sold drugs while in prison. The drugs, which included crystal methamphetamine and 30 milligram Oxycodone tablets, also known as Roxicodone, were obtained from Darryl Hemphill.

Investigators say Hemphill and others produced the pills with fentanyl at several different locations in the Rock Hill and Charlotte regions. Hemphill led a drug organization and would give the substances to Cook’s brother, who would take the drugs to a correctional officer. The correntinal officer would then conceal the drugs and bring them to Cook in prison.

The maximum sentence Cook could receive is 40 years in prison, a $5 million fine and 4 years of supervised release. Cook will be sentenced once he finishes his current federal prison term.

This case was investigated by multiple agencies, including one of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), which go after high-level organized crime.
