Robin Padilla denies helping nephew's release from jail

The actor stated that Mark Anthony Fernandez didn't ask for his help in getting his release

2 Feb – Actor Robin Padilla has recently dismissed the idea that he played a part on the release of nephew Mark Anthony Fernandez from prison last month.

As reported on ABS-CBN, the actor, who was asked about Fernandez's release at an endorsement event recently, stated that he didn't ask for help from President Rodrigo Duterte despite their close friendship, and that Fernandez himself didn't ask him to help.

"When I previously went there [to see him], we just talked," he said.

Fernandez, who was jailed for more than a year after found in possession of marijuana, had his case dismissed in December and was released from a prison in Pampanga before Christmas 2017.

When asked if he has a message for Fernandez, Padilla - who himself was imprisoned for three years in the past for illegal possession of firearms - stated that he hopes that the actor will be able to make a change in his life.
