Robert De Niro Narrates Joe Biden Ad: ‘Trump Wants Revenge’

If he can’t “punch [Trump] in the face,” as he once attempted to manifest by speaking it out loud, Robert De Niro will jab an upper cut at Trump with words. The actor has narrated a new half-minute ad spot for President Joe Biden’s campaign, which posted it to its YouTube account.

“From midnight tweets, to drinking bleach, to tear-gassing citizens and staging a photo op,” De Niro says in the ad. “We knew Trump was out of control when he was president. Then he lost the 2020 election – and snapped. Desperately trying to hold onto power. Now he’s running again. This time threatening to be a dictator. To terminate the Constitution.” The spot then cuts to a soundbite of Trump promising a “bloodbath” if he loses the election. “Trump wants revenge and he’ll stop at nothing to get it,” De Niro concludes before Biden’s voice steps in to approve the ad.

Deadline reports that the ad is part of the Biden campaign’s media buy for May and will air on national cable and on TV in battleground states beginning today. The campaign will also run it digitally in battleground states.

Trump’s “bloodbath” remark comes from a speech he gave in Dayton this past March. “Now if I don’t get elected, it’s gonna be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it,” he said at one point. “It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country, that will be the least of it.” He added, “I don’t think you’re going to have another election in this country if we don’t win this election.”

De Niro, who next month will be the subject of a whole festival celebrating his 80th birthday, has long been a vociferous anti-Trumper. In 2019, De Niro called Trump a white supremacist and an “unrepentant, lying scumbag.” Regarding Trump and Fox News that year, De Niro shrugged them off, saying, “Fuck ’em,” on CNN. And last year, he called Trump a “charlatan” and a grifter.
