Roads, schools closed as heavy rains lash Central Louisiana
More closures are being announced Wednesday morning as a storm batters the Central Louisiana area with heavy rainfall and threats of tornadoes.
Some roads are closed in Grant Parish because of trees down or water over the roads, according to the Grant Parish Police Jury.
Roads closed are:
Donaldson Road
Stuart Lake Road
Newton Road
Parasol Road
Peg Dees Road
The Grant Parish Sheriff's Office reported trees down on La. Highway 122 at Biddle Road, Greys Creek Road, FS146 at Stewart Lake Road and Stewart Lake Recreation near the lake. Also, the office reported water on Ash Street and Lake Street.
The Avoyelles Parish Police Jury announced garbage collection for Wednesday was suspended and will resume Thursday.
No road closures were being reported early Wednesday by either the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office or Police Jury, according to their Facebook pages.
However, the town of Ball and the Ball Fire Department announced a few closures because of high water. Those are Powell Drive and both sides of the Springhill and Ball Cutoff intersection.
But schools and government agencies announced closures Tuesday, ahead of the storm's arrival.
Closed today are:
All state offices
Rapides Parish public and private schools
Grant Parish public schools
Avoyelles Parish public schools
Louisiana State University at Alexandria
Louisiana Christian University
Northwestern State University campuses
Rapides Parish Public Library branches
Central Louisiana Technical Community College branches. CLTCC announced it was transitioning to virtual operations.
