Roads across Missouri closed due to flooding from weekend storms

LAFAYETTE, Mo. – Many roads across Missouri are closed due to flooding, including at least one in Lafayette County, just north of Oak Grove.

The Missouri Dept. of Transportation said the majority of flooded roads are in rural areas.

Although Monday brought blue skies and sunshine, MoDOT reminds drivers some roads are still flooded from storms over the weekend.

“Turn around, don’t drown,” MoDOT Area Engineer Marisela Ward said.

In Lafayette Co., part of FF Rd. near D Rd. is submerged in water. It’s near Sni-A-Bar Creek.

MoDOT crews blocked off the road using barricades and signs to keep drivers away and safe.

Ward said seven or eight roads are still closed across our area in counties like Ray, Saline, Petties and Johnson Co., Mo.

“We’ll leave the barricades up until we feel it’s safe for the traveling public to get back on those routes,” Ward said.

Ward encourages people to steer clear of standing water. She said it takes less than a foot of water to push a vehicle.

“Let our maintenance crews check the roads,” Ward said. “Don’t try to go around the barricades. We want to make sure that they’re safe before we have the driving public going through there.”

Ward said after waters recede, crews will check for any damage caused by the rain.

“So, we want to tell the public to be patient and let our crews check that before they drive through the roads,” Ward said.

She said they’ve already received a few calls about potholes as some areas dried up and their crews are working to fill them.

MoDOT said crews are working 24/7 to keep an eye on flooded roadways.
