Road closures planned for Longhorn Run, ABC Kite Fest in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Springtime festivities are fully underway in Austin, with thousands poised to gather this weekend to bask in the ABC Kite Fest or participate in the Longhorn Run’s 5K and 10K races.

The Longhorn Run kicks off Saturday morning, with the 10K race beginning at 8 a.m. and the 5K starting at 8:15 a.m. The annual event traverses across the University of Texas at Austin’s 40 acres, with this year’s festivities a sold-out ordeal.

10K races will line up at 21st Street to begin the race, while the 5K race’s starting line is along Speedway, north of 21st Street.

Here’s a breakdown of those planned road closures.

On Sunday, Austinites and visitors alike will ring in the 96th ABC Kite Fest at Zilker Park. The event is free and open to the public and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Planned roadway impacts include a full road closure of Barton Springs Road from Azie Morton Road to MoPac Expressway, along with full closures of the roads in and surrounding Zilker Park. Barton Springs Road’s westbound lanes will be closed from Sterzing Street to Azie Morton Road, while Azie Morton Road’s southbound lane will be closed from Lund Street to Barton Springs Road.
