A roach, rust and pink slime found at worst Myrtle Beach area restaurant inspections

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control found numerous violations at Myrtle Beach area and Conway restaurants, including finding a roach, rust and other violations.

SCDHEC frequently inspects Grand Strand restaurants, and the department’s reports are up-to-date as of April 24, 2024. These restaurants received the worst inspections from SCDHEC.

Legends Restaurant & Lounge

Address: 1500 Legends Drive in Myrtle Beach

Grade: 72 percent

SCDHEC inspected Legends Restaurant & Lounge April 19, 2024, and found several violations. The inspection found a rusted ice machine and an employee handling burger buns barehanded.

SCDHEC also found food held beyond its discard date, food debris, and ice build-up in a reach-in freezer. The department’s inspection also observed a soiled cleaning rag stored on a prep table, among other violations.

SCDHEC’s inspection concluded that Legends Restaurant & Lounge must have a follow-up on-site inspection within 10 days.

Conway Mart

Address: 1300 Business Highway 501 in Conway

Grade: 78 percent

SCDHEC inspected Conway Mart April 17, 2024, and found several violations. The department’s inspection found multiple flies and a baby roach crawling around in the front service area.

SCDHEC observed that cooked ground beef labeled April 1, 2024, wasn’t discarded, exceeding the seven day limit ready-to-eat foods can be stored. SCDHEC found a storage area with cracks and gaps in the walls, ceilings, and doors.

The inspection also found that the outside trash area wasn’t properly maintained, the dumpster was rusted and had holes, and trash was on the ground.

The inspection also found that the kitchen hand sink had no soap and lacked paper towels or “other approved hand drying provision.” SCDHEC’s report also saw an employee washing their hands with single-use gloves on, and a box of gloves was in the hand sink, among other violations.

SCDHEC’s inspection concluded that Conway Mart must have a follow-up on-site inspection before April 26, 2026, for several violations. If it doesn’t correct its violations, Conway Mart will be downgraded.

Sunhouse Petroleum #7

Address: 2760 Highway 905 in Conway

Grade: 80 percent

SCDHEC inspected Sunhouse Petroleum #7 April 15, 2024, and found many violations. For example, SCDHEC found molded barbecue and chili in a walk-in cooler.

The inspection also found opened bologna without a date mark, and the probe food thermometer didn’t accurately record temperature, among other violations.

SCDHEC’s inspection concluded that Sunhouse Petroleum #7 must have a follow-up inspection before April 26, 2024, and failure to fix it could result in a downgrading.

El Super De Myrtle Beach

Address: 4977 Socastee Blvd. in Socastee

Grade: 85 percent

SCDHEC inspected El Super De Myrtle Beach April 15, 2024, and found several violations.

SCDHEC reported that a hand sink lacked paper towels, El Super didn’t make tamales served there, and the restaurant didn’t have an invoice for them. A front counter lacked sneeze protection for pork skins, and baking ingredients were uncovered in storage, according to SCDHEC’s inspection.

Among other violations, SCDHEC’s report concluded that El Super De Myrtle Beach must have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.

McDonald’s #26519

Address: 3730 Renee Drive in Myrtle Beach

Grade: 85 percent

SCDHEC inspected McDonald’s #26519 April 16, 2024, and found several violations. SCDHEC found pink slime build-up within an ice machine. SCDHEC also found a leaky hot water dispenser and grease and food debris build-up on the kitchen hood and throughout the facility.

SCDHEC also reported that the drive-through window didn’t work properly and that a commercial pest control invoice from March 2024 was present. SCDHEC’s inspection concluded that McDonald’s #26519 must have an on-site follow-up inspection within 10 days.
