Rio Rancho Police: Man shoots and kills woman during domestic dispute

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Rio Rancho police say a woman was shot in the head and killed Wednesday evening.

Police say Wednesday, April 3 around 5 p.m. a call for service cam in saying a woman, identified as Desirae Lussow, was brought to the University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head.

RRPD says Pablo Padilla and Lussow were driving to Rio Rancho with their three children when a domestic argument broke out. The argument escalated and Padilla grabbed an AR-15 rifle, which he stored in the vehicle, and shot Lussow in the head. After shooting her, Padilla drove to the hospital. Lussow died from her injuries. Padilla was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center.

The shooting did not happen on the hospital campus, however out of caution Rio Rancho Police placed the UNM SRMC emergency room on lockdown while police investigated the shooting. The hospital says staff was able to resume all normal patient care, but visitors were not allowed inside the emergency department. All other areas of the hospital remained under normal operations while police investigated the incident.
