The BBC's latest Agatha Christie adaptation, Murder is Easy, has announced its cast, and it's full of recognisable faces.

As filming gets going in Scotland, it's been confirmed that the two-part thriller will star Downton Abbey's Penelope Wilton as Miss Pilkington, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark as Bridget, and David Jonsson from Rye Lane and Industry as Fitzwilliam.

The cast also includes Ghosts' Mathew Bayntonas Dr Thomas, plus World on Fire and Line of Duty's Mark Bonnar as Reverend Humbleby.

They're joined by Jon Pointing (Big Boys, Plebs) as Rivers, and former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite (New Tricks) as Mrs Piece.

Sinead Matthews (The Crown) is playing Miss Waynflete, with Tom Riley (The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window) as Lord Whitfield, Shetland's Douglas Henshall as Major Horton, and Nimra Bucha (Ms Marvel) as Mrs Humbleby. Meanwhile, Phoebe Licorish is making her screen debut as Rose.

Set in England in 1954, Murder is Easy sees Fitzwilliam meeting up with Miss Pinkerton on a train. She tells him that there's a killer on the loose in Wychwood under Ashe.

Locals in the quaint village believe that the deaths are just a series of accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise. Unfortunately, she's murdered before she can warn Scotland Yard.

Now it's up to Fitzwilliam to find the killer before they can strike again.

James Prichard, an executive producer for Agatha Christie Ltd, said in a statement: "Once again my great grandmother's stories have attracted some amazing talent. It is so exciting to see this group of actors embark on the re-telling of this great story.

"The concept of evil lurking in the quintessentially English village is a familiar trope, but what exactly it is that makes murder easy remains to be revealed."

Murder is Easy has just begun filming, and will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on BritBox in the US, Canada and South Africa.
