Ridgeway shooting injures one, leaves road closed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting Sunday night left a man in critical condition and had part of Ridgeway Road in Hickory Hill closed for an investigation.

Officers responded to the InTown Suites Extended Stay hotel at 3539 Ridgeway Road at 9:30 p.m. One male was taken to Regional One in critical condition.

Police found the victim’s 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe in the parking lot, still running and with the doors open.

“I was in my room and I heard a gunshot,” a witness named Kenneth said. “So, I came out just to see what was going on and the guy was laying out on the sidewalk. He had jumped the fence after getting shot and his vehicle was there with the door wide open.”

WREG’s crew that was on the scene Sunday night captured images of that truck parked in the parking lot of the In-Town Suites.

A spent shell casing found five feet from the vehicle indicated that the shooting took place inside the car, where multiple baggies and a mason jar of marijuana were also found.

The property manager of the hotel reportedly told police that he witnessed a man jump out of the passenger side of the Tahoe and run through the parking lot. The man allegedly got into a black Nissan Altima and fled the scene on Ridgeway.

According to the manager, the suspect stays at the hotel. Two other people were taken in for questioning.

Police had no suspect information. Ridgeway was closed between Winchester Road and Ridge Meadow Parkway at 10 p.m.

“It’s very frustrating,” Kenneth said. “I think today that we need more comradery between the youth and it will make (Memphis) a much better place.”
