Rideshare passenger shot and killed on South Side ID’d

CHICAGO — The man who was shot and killed while sitting in a rideshare vehicle on the city’s South Side early Wednesday morning has been identified, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office (CCMEO).

The CCMEO identified the man as 23-year-old Dontius M. Wilson.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. in the 600 block of West 69th Street in the Englewood neighborhood.

Police said the man, later identified as Wilson, was a passenger in a rideshare vehicle, when someone inside a dark-colored sedan fired shots.

Wilson was shot multiple times. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

No one is in custody. Area One Detectives are investigating.
