Richmond Co. Sheriff race could head to run-off

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The race for Richmond County Sheriff could be heading to a run-off.

One candidate needed 50% plus one vote to win outright.

Incumbent Sheriff Richard Roundtree ended the night with 49.12% of the vote, totaling 11,248 votes.

Challenger Eugene ‘Gino Rock’ Brantley tallied 27.82% of the vote, with 6,369 votes.

Bo Johnson garnered 23.06% of the vote with 5,280 votes.

We caught up with Brantley tonight, who said, “A lot of hard work, great staff, just great teamwork. We had to hit the pavement running, early in the morning, standing on corners, going through neighborhoods, knocking on doors–we’re making progress.”

Sheriff Roundtree declined to comment at this time.

A run-off election would take place June 18
