April 10, 1974: Eye farmers market idea for Boyne

BOYNE CITY — Rising food costs are kindling new thoughts of establishing the old farmer’s market again.

At Tuesday night’s Boyne City Commission meeting, Harold Parsons threw out the idea of starting one up in Boyne City.

“I wonder if something like that might work here?” he asked the commission.

“It’s just getting out of this world, the cost of stuff, when you’re living on a fixed income.

“People are hurting.”

However, he got little reaction from the city commission.

Mayor Lyle Kowalski said this type of venture might be more of a private enterprise.

City Manager Forbes Tompkins suggested it might even be set up in the new shelter house to be finished this spring and located in Boyne City’s Veterans Memorial Park.
