Retired nurse rushed to teen’s aid after he was shot, killed by friend in Ruskin neighborhood

RUSKIN, Fla (WFLA) — Anita McClintock was baking ahead of Easter Sunday when she heard loud screams in her Bahia Lakes neighborhood.

“You hear somebody screaming, ‘Help, help!'” McClintock said.

McClintock says her husband was outside the home and saw a woman running in distress along Seminole Sky Drive. According to McClintock, the scene was followed by someone saying, “he’s been shot.”

As a retired nurse, McClintock says she naturally ran over to help.

“When I saw him, he was not breathing, so I started CPR until paramedics came,” she explained.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 911 call and discovered a 14-year-old boy had been shot in the chest. Investigators say the victim was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Detectives reported that a 15-year-old boy fired the fatal shot and told deputies he was the victim’s acquaintance. HCSO is still investigating the shooting and hasn’t shared how the teen got ahold of the weapon.

McClintock says it was a sad day in her usually quiet neighborhood. For her, the most devastating part was watching the victim’s mother during it all.

“If you ever heard her screams, her cries for her son, it’s sad,” she said. “A mother shouldn’t lose her child, it’s a child that loses the mother.”

HCSO hadn’t charged anyone in the teenager’s death as of 4 p.m. Monday.
