‘The rest was history.’ 11 bikes stolen from racing team’s garage

SALISBURY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — At first, Heath Harrison thought the news of his team’s garage being burglarized Monday morning was a joke until he arrived at Phoenix Racing Honda Team in Salisbury to see the damage for himself.

“That’s six or seven years of team effort and riders putting their blood sweat and tears into it … and it’s tough,” Harrison explained.

Before the clock struck 4 Monday morning, a large group of burglars were caught on camera breaking through the front door of the team’s building and taking 11 motorbikes.

“I think they knew what they were coming for,” Harrison said. “They did their research and they knew what they were getting.”

Harrison shared a series of security video clips with Queen City News which show the burglary playing out in real time. Authorities believe between seven and nine people were part of the heist.

The group could be seen parking a U-Haul truck in the rear parking lot of the business next to the team’s garage.

They were then seen walking around the building before they picked up a concrete brick and smashed their way through the front door of the building.

“Once they got in, the rest was history,” he explained.

Within about 15 minutes from the time they arrived to the time they left the property, the group stole the following:

  • Two No. 42 Honda CRF450r Lorette Lynn race bikes

  • Six No. 1 Honda CRF250r Arenacross bikes

  • One No. 99 Honda CRF250R US Spring Enduro Bike

  • One No. 11 Honda CRF450r Moose display bike (black)

  • One No. 140 Honda CRF250r Rookie of the Year SX bike

“Nine of them were past championship bikes,” Harrison explained. “And two were just special bikes to us.”

Three of those were driven by Harrison when he won his championships.

Rowan County authorities have not announced the arrest of any thieves, but Harrison believes the bikes will not be hard to spot on the streets.

The team’s bikes stick out when compared to your typical motorbikes due to their signature gold wheels

They also use a specific type of gas, which means that after a while of normal gasoline, they will more than likely be un-ridable.

If you spot these bikes on the ride, contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
