  • Kay Ivey (R-AL)

  • Kristi Noem (R-SD)

Gov. Laura Kelly approves seven new laws in Kansas

Kelly is the 48th governor of the state of Kansas. She was first elected to the position in 2018 and won a second term in 2022. Her main objectives in the position include the economy, child care, the foster care system, abortion rights and healthcare.

Kelly has received criticism in the past from lawmakers for her opposition to and veto attempts on a bill banning transgender athletes in Kansas and the “Parents Bill of Rights” in 2023. During the 2022 race for governor Kelly’s GOP opponent, then-Attorney General Derek Schmidt, attacked her over Kelly’s decisions to close Kansas schools during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Morning Consult surveys thousands of registered voters in the U.S. to form reports like this. It tracks data on people’s attitudes on various political topics such as presidential approval, governor approval and congressional senator approval.
