Repairs underway after 'major gas leak' causes Xavier University to close

Xavier University has closed its Evanston campus Friday as Duke Energy works to repair a gas leak.

The university first alerted students just after 10 a.m., saying the campus' closure was due to a "major gas leak." At 11:47 a.m., another alert said the leak had been contained, though crews were still working.

Duke Energy has located the damaged gas line and repairs are expected to be completed early Friday evening, said Doug Ruschman, the university's associate vice president for marketing and communications.
