Repairs to damaged U.S. 27 lights may start this weekend
Apr. 22—Drivers along U.S. 27 in Somerset may see the beginning of repairs to damaged lights at two busy intersections by the end of the week, according to state officials.
Amber Hale, information officer with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 office said that state work crews are expected to be here on Friday.
"They should be starting to put everything back up by the end of the week, and (get the lights operational) sometime over the weekend or the first of next week," Hale said.
That means both intersections 6 and 26 may be working again soon, depending on the weather and any unforeseen incidents.
Delays were caused due to a truck being "down" for the state department, leaving only one truck available statewide, Hale said.
Both lights were knocked out on the same day — February 2 — when separate wrecks took down poles that hold up the lights at parts of those intersections.
No one was injured in either wreck, but since that time, the traffic flow for both intersections has been altered.
No left-hand turns or u-turns are allowed for those intersections as of right now, meaning drivers on U.S. 27 who need to turn left must drive to the next intersection and navigate back to their destination. Likewise, drivers who are coming out of the side streets can only turn right onto U.S. 27 — no left turns and no crossing U.S. 27 allowed.
Motorists are asked to use caution at those intersections this weekend during the repairs.
