DENVER (KDVR) — Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is set to open its concert season in less than a week, but it might look a little different than you remember it.

The iconic music venue has hosted famous performers from The Beatles to Johnny Cash. The shows are highly coveted and the venue sold over 1.65 million tickets last season. It’s also many artists’ dream to play at the venue.

Red Rocks already announced over 150 concerts between the end of March to November. If you’re planning a summer concert at the venue, keep an eye out for these changes.

Security

Security is going to be different this year – but the venue isn’t changing the no-gum policy.

Red Rocks will be using the Evolv magnetometer system, Ben Heinemann with Denver Arts and Venues told FOX31, which will replace wands and most bag searches for faster entry.

While you still can’t bring gum or confetti, you might be able to snag a seat closer to the stage when the concert doors open.

Remodeled visitor center

The revamped visitor center comes with a few new updates including remodeled bathrooms, a new family restroom and the reopening of an onsite restaurant — the Ship Rock Grille.

The restaurant was temporarily closed, but it’s expected to start serving guests in late May, said Heinemann.

Parking lot

The area around the parking lot has some of the most changes.

Red Rocks added a retaining wall and stairs from the Lower South One Lot to the sidewalk leading to the Trading Post and south venue entrances.

Red Rocks also expanded its sidewalks and curbs and added more lighting.

These infrastructure improvements help with stormwater management by redirecting water flows with improved drainage, said Heinemann.

Accessibility

The venue expanded the Upper South parking lot for those with disabilities. There’s now a bigger parking area, restrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and a shelter structure for those waiting for the ADA shuttle.

Red Rocks also adjusted the slopes in the parking lots and ramps from the Top Circle Lot to the visitor center along with the ramp from the South Gate to row one.

The Top Circle Lot also looks different with more slopes and curbs.

As far as inside the venue towards the stage goes, it’s going to look the same as last year, except you might notice a cleaner look as Red Rocks recently scraped off 50 pounds of gum from the seats.

Red Rocks is still selling tickets and continually announcing artists performing at the venue this summer. Last week, Red Rocks added Diana Ross to the lineup.
