Red Lobster considers filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

As reported earlier, Red Lobster was considering filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a failed promotion cost it millions of dollars, according to Bloomberg.

The seafood chain reported $11 million loss last year after making its “Unlimited Shrimp Deal” a permanent menu option instead of a limited-time promotion, according to ABC News.

Which Red Lobsters are closing?

Several news outlets, including The Hill and The Independent, are reporting that Red Lobster is closing at least 48 stores across the country and auctioning off equipment.

According to TAGeX Brands, which is handling the auction, 48 locations in 21 states closed Monday, and the restaurant equipment will be auctioned on Thursday, May 16. The auction site shows California and Florida lost the most at five locations each, while Colorado and Maryland are next, each losing four.

At least one restaurant -- in Erie, Pennsylvania -- is not on TAGeX Brands list but is listed as closed on Red Lobster's website.
