Recreational and aquatic center coming to Mt. Juliet

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — Swimming pools, pickle ball, and basketball courts are coming to Mt Juliet.

Monday night, city commissioners greenlit a 14-acre recreational and aquatic center that will be the first of its kind.

“This is a great step for Mt. Juliet, this is a great step, a pool, a gym a rec center,” said Rocky Lee, Parks Director for the City of Mt. Juliet.

Lee said the community has been asking for a park like this for years.

“Next to fixing our roads it’s probably one of the biggest requests we’ve had for a long time,” said City Commissioner Ray Justice.

Justice has been working on the idea for quite some time. On Monday night, he brought a resolution to the city commissioners that passed unanimously. “We’ve got the residents, we’ve got the funding,” Justice said.

Justice added the best part is residents will not pay a dime. The funding is coming through the hotel/motel tax.

The entire area along Clemmons Road is seeing new development, according to Justice, as the city continues to explode with growth.

“This is just typical Mt. Juliet out here. It’s growing like weeds out here and people are moving in left and right,” Lee said.

Lee said it will probably be three to four years until the park is fully operational.
