Record holiday travel expected at Charlotte Airport and on the roadways

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A record travel turnout is expected this upcoming holiday weekend for Memorial Day at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and on the roadways.

Plans are in place and at 1 p.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, TSA, American Airlines, and airport officials will discuss those plans.

AAA said a record-setting 1.3 million North Carolinians are expected to hit the roads for the holiday, a 50,000 increase year-over-year. The travel company predicts 48.8 million Americans will travel Memorial Day Weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend’s annual Coke 600 will be held at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday night at 6 p.m. (WJZY). Former President Donald Trump, who has previously attended the race, is expected to again be in attendance.

The forecast in the area for the holiday weekend is expected to be warm with temps averaging in the upper 80s and the only marginal chances for rain coming on Saturday.
