Reconstruction, replacement and improvements coming for an Ankeny road

Part of Northwest Ash Drive in Ankeny will close starting May 28 for construction.

The city announced in a news release that Northwest Ash Drive will close to through traffic between Northwest 18th Street and Northwest Wagner Boulevard on May 28, weather permitting, for the Ash Drive reconstruction project.

The project will include pavement reconstruction, widening for a left turn lane and storm water utility improvements. A left turn lane into the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex will also be added.

There will be two stages for the reconstruction project. There will be different parts of the road closed with marked detours.

  • Stage 1: Northwest Ash Drive will be closed from just south of the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex parking lot entrance to just south of Northwest 18th Street.

  • Stage 2: Northwest Ash Drive will be closed from just south of the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex parking lot exit to just south of the entrance.

According to an overview of the project from the city of Ankeny, there will be a signed detour utilizing Northwest Prairie Ridge Drive, Northwest State Street, and Northwest 18th Street will be used for both stages.

The Prairie Ridge Sports Complex parking lot will remain accessible during all stages of construction.

The Ash Drive reconstruction project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, according to the project overview. This is part of the City of Ankeny Capital Improvement Program, which is a five-year plan for scheduling capital projects and long-term debt.
