RCISD names Roberts, Rouse as Teachers of the Year

May 20—Royse City ISD late last week announced its Teacher of the Year honorees for both elementary and secondary schools.

Angela Roberts was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year. She has 30 years of teaching experience with 20 of those years spent at W.R. Fort Elementary. In its announcement, RCISD said Roberts "has built a legacy in education in this community."

Roberts added that in her opinion, the best way to give back to the community is to prepare young minds to believe in themselves and motivate them to dream and work hard. She was also lauded for never giving up on herself or her students.

Principal Wendy Prater said the culture of Fort Elementary was built by educators like Roberts.

"We are better off by working with her and families and students are better off by her work in the classroom," Prater said.

Angela Rouse was recognized as the Secondary Teacher of the Year. A ninth- to 12th-grade honors and dual credit biology teacher has been in the classroom for 21 years and this is her fourth time to earn the title of campus teacher of the year.

Rouse said her grandmother played a part in her journey to teaching. In her classroom, students search for evidence, build memories, try new things, share good things and celebrate each other. She added that she's proud of the culture at Royse City High School and how teachers help each other with ease.

Principal Brooke McMaster said Rouse puts kids first, makes science fun and is an asset to RCHS, the RCCCA and the community of Royse City.

Roberts and Rouse will represent RCISD at the regional level of the state Teacher of the Year awards.
