Rare 1950s Corvette up for auction in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Carlisle Events is bringing in a rare classic for its first show of the year.

It is from 1953 when only 300 Corvettes were produced. Now, only half of them remain with most in not-so-good condition or in private hands.

However, the 71-year-old vehicle up for auction in Carlisle has been restored with many original parts still in place. It is marked with serial number #98 and comes with the original VIN tag, body, and frame. The engine is a number-matching blue flame six-cylinder.

“What an exciting way to kick off our auction season,” said Tony Cline, Director of Auction Operations. “This is a rare opportunity for the collectors, and it is happening right here in Carlisle!”

A similar Corvette was sold at the Spring show last year for a whopping $324,000.

The auction is on April 18 and 19 with a start time at 12 p.m. but the ’53 Corvette is up for bid on the 19th. There are three ways to bid, in person, on the phone, and online. The auction is also streamed online.

The auction takes place in conjunction with Spring Carlisle, which is a five-day event that includes an automotive flea market and car corral. It runs from April 17 to 21 at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
