Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office welcomes new K-9

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office welcomed a new Deputy K-9.

K-9 Scio is a bloodhound, and according to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, his training will start soon. His handler is Corporal Justin Howard. K-9 Scio was bought using donations from Punishers Motorcycle club (a Law Enforcement and first responder club), Little General Stores, and Calacino’s Pizzeria and Sports Bar.

Bloodhounds are very good trackers, and are often used to search for missing people and suspects. They can track for long distances, and have an incredibly good sense of smell with a nose full of around 300 million scent receptors.
