Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about scam calls

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office warned residents about scams after receiving reports of scam phone calls.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office stated that scammers are calling people and leaving messages pretending they are from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.

The scam calls state that there is an urgent legal matter, and that the callers demand payment for crimes such as failure to appear for jury duty. The scammers also looked into and learned the names of some Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Deputies to seem more accurate.

According to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, they do not collect money or fines from people. They also said that anyone who gets a call from someone who requests money and pretends to be a member of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office should not give them information and hang up as soon as possible.

Anyone who gets a call and is worried that it may be true can go to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement headquarters located at 308 Ned Payne Drive in Beckley or call them at 304-255-9300.
