Quiet night tonight, heating up for the weekend

We continued our warmer pattern with highs today reaching the 80s. Tonight, we’ll still be above average temperature wise with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s under a clear sky. Wind will be out of the south at about 5 mph.

We see highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s with wind becoming more southerly and picking up a bit over the weekend. This will gradually draw up higher humidity into the area making the heat index reach the lower to middle 90s.

That will set the stage for some stronger storms early next week. Both late Sunday and late Monday carry the risk of strong to severe storms. It’s something we watch and finetune over the couple days.

Cloudera, the once high flying Hadoop startup, raised $1 billion and went public in 2018 before being acquired by private equity for $5.3 billion 2021. Today, the company announced that it is acquiring Verta, an AI startup that helps customers manage machine learning models, including large language models used in generative AI. Cloudera, which launched a SaaS data lakehouse the year after it was acquired, needed some AI chops to stay relevant in today’s market.

The global spend management sector is experiencing a tailwind of sorts. Indeed, the space is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.3% by 2030, per Grand View Research, and adoption in other regions like the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is expected to pick up as companies increasingly adopt expense management tools to get a clearer picture of where their money is going.
