Quad City Arts starts new mentorship program

Quad City Arts invites performing artists in the region to apply for a pilot mentorship program aimed to elevate their artistry for school audiences.

In response to community feedback asking for more local performing arts career opportunities, Quad City Arts unveils a pilot called the Quad Cities Performing Arts Mentorship, according to a Tuesday release.

Launching this spring, the first group will focus on crafting engaging performances suitable for K-12 school audiences. The mentorship, also known as QCPAM, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering local artists to create shows serving the needs of school audiences with educational engagements, Quad City Arts said.

The ultimate goal of the pilot is to create a sustainable business model for artists within the live performing arts ecosystem, fostering long-term partnerships and opportunities for touring and for Quad City Arts to provide a responsive and supportive professional development program for local performing artists.

The program spans three parts, including remote sessions for strategic planning and business development, on-site sessions for live show analysis and community tours, and remote sessions for arts entrepreneurship, marketing strategies, and guidance on best tour practices.

Participating artists will receive a stipend to cover additional expenses related to the further development of their work to help offset costs that will help take artistic work to the next level, ensuring a strong foundation for long-term success.

Applications will open on Tuesday, April 9 and are due on Thursday, April 25. Artists selected for the spring 2024 QCPAM cohort will be notified on Friday, May 3.

Applicants must be located in the QC region, a six-county area in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Live performing artists are encouraged to apply, including those working in genres including but not limited to music, dance, theater, puppetry, magic, circus, storytelling, spoken word, etc. Qualified applicants must have a show appropriate for school audiences that they want to further develop or would like to create a new show designed for school audiences.

QCPAM is customized to the individual artist with the understanding that some artists will need to focus on the development of their show while others will need more assistance in business development and marketing their work. The span of commitment will be based on the needs of the artist.
