Two alleged teenage vehicle burglars led deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle that ultimately ended with a crash in Victorville over the weekend, authorities said.

The encounter began shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday when deputies responded to multiple reports of two people trying to break into cars in the 15200 block of Sunny Point Street, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.

The deputies spotted a 2020 Toyota Camry matching the description given by witnesses and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled.

"The driver of the vehicle drove at a high rate of speed and disregarded traffic signals," according to a sheriff's department statement. "The vehicle crashed into a light pole causing the vehicle to become disabled at the intersection of Kimberly (Drive) and Amargosa (Road)."

Both suspects then got out of the car and ran, but were quickly captured nearby, officials said. The car was determined to have been reported stolen in Barstow two days before.

The driver was identified by sheriff's officials and county booking records as Keveon Clark, 18, of Victorville. His passenger was described as a 15-year-old Victorville girl.

Clark was booked on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and child abuse, records show. Bail was set at $90,000 pending legal proceedings.

The teenage girl was taken to a juvenile hall.
