Publix donates 4-million-pounds of produce to Feeding the Valley food bank

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Feeding the Valley Food Bank has received over 4 million pounds of produce from Publix to help feed families in need.

Feeding the Valley Food Bank has been serving the Chattahoochee Valley since 1982. The President and CEO of the food bank says that this partnership with Publix has allowed the food bank to do more.

Frank Sheppard, who has been the CEO of the food bank for ten years, spoke to WRBL about the donations.

“Normally, all the products are donated to us, but produce is one item that when it’s in short supply, we all have to go out and purchase,” Sheppard said. “We have not had to do that with Publix having this program and made this food available to us so that saves us a lot of money to invest in other programs to help people out in other ways.”

Publix has donated to seven food banks across Georgia. However, Feeding the Valley Food Bank has received the most donations.

Sheppard told WRBL, “Publix does send us so much food and now we have even more capacity to be able to store that food and then get it out in the community really quickly.”
