Providence man convicted in 2021 murder
PROVIDENCE – A 37-year-old Providence man was convicted Friday of murder, conspiracy and firearms charges in the 2021 shooting death of 38-year-old Jorge Garcia, who was having breakfast with a friend at Roque's Café on Broad Street when a man entered the restaurant and fired six shots into him.
A jury found Juan Rivera guilty after a 14-day Superior Court trial in front of Judge Kristin E. Rodgers. Rivera is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
The status of a co-defendant in the case, Julio Castro, also charged with murder and conspiracy, was not immediately available.
Assistant Attorney General Robert E. Johnson and Providence police Detectives Theodore Michael (retired), Michael Otrando (retired), Matthew Nadeau and Edward Regine and Sgt. Terence Greene led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
