Protester pleads not guilty to shattering city hall doors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A protester accused of physically resisting police officers and pulling hard enough on the doors of Bakersfield City Hall South that she shattered glass entered not guilty pleas on Thursday.

Lorena Salinas pleaded not guilty to felony counts of resisting arrest and vandalism, and misdemeanor counts of remaining at the scene of a riot and resisting arrest.

Salinas was one of four pro-Palestinian protesters arrested after refusing to leave a March 27 city council meeting.

Supervising Deputy District Attorney Gina Pearl said Salinas caused more than $2,000 in damage.

Salinas is out of custody and is due back in court April 22.

Co-defendant Gabriela Lynn Mota is accused of spitting on a police officer. Her arraignment is set for April 25.

Two other protesters arrested at the meeting — Lance Mack and Ashley Vega — face two misdemeanor counts each of resisting arrest and remaining at the scene of a riot.
