Proposed Sacramento budget saves jobs despite $66 million deficit

The city of Sacramento's proposed budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year both avoids active job eliminations and fails to fund or fix long-term liabilities despite a $66 million projected deficit. The proposed $1.57 million budget from City Manager Howard Chan was released Tuesday. The proposed spending plan funds 5,029 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions and avoids eliminating any jobs that are currently filled. However, the balancing plan in the proposal eliminates 44.20 vacant FTEs, according to a city statement.
