Proposed changes to the Straz Center include rooftop bar, more space on the Riverwalk

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Leaders with the Straz Center for the Performing Arts are asking for the community’s feedback on their new master plan.

The proposal is a $100 million investment in the performances and programs at the nonprofit. Renderings show an extended outdoor area on the Riverwalk, a rooftop bar and a veil wrapping around the facility to include two new buildings.

President and CEO Gregory Holland says the plan provides 200,000 square feet of new and reclaimed space. He said the space will allow their education center, school, homeless and veteran outreach programs to expand by 30%.

“They’re new places for us to program artists working, playing for us to program artists working, playing music, performing, a new Riverwalk stage to replace the one we currently have so that anyone who wants to attend the Straz Center without a ticket belongs,” he said.

Construction is set to start at the end of the year. Work will continue for the next three years, wrapping up in 2027.

Leaders at the Straz are holding 2 community input meetings.
