CLEVELAND (WJW) — Progressive Insurance has extended its naming rights for the Cleveland Guardians‘ ballpark through at least the 2036 season.

The agreement, announced Wednesday, would automatically extend through the 2041 season if Progressive Field’s lease is also extended, according to a news release.

The Mayfield Village-based Progressive Insurance assumed naming rights for the Ontario Street ballpark in 2008. It was originally named Jacobs Field when it opened in 1994.

It’s the 11th oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

“Progressive Insurance and the Guardians proudly call Cleveland home, and this agreement symbolizes our collective commitment to each other, the fans of the franchise, and the Northeast Ohio community,” Progressive CEO Tricia Griffith is quoted in the release. “We look forward to being a part of many more memories at the ballpark in the years to come.”

Fans can expect new signage outside the ballpark this season, at the home plate entrance at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario, according to the release.

A slate of renovations at the 30-year-old field began in September, including seat replacements, a revamped upper deck with a beer garden, a new terrace hub and a new club behind home plate, among others.

The Guardians’ home opener is on Monday, April 8, against the Chicago White Sox.
