The royally strange story behind Ed Sheeran's recent head wound is one for the books: the singer reportedly sustained a gash to his face after a fake knighting went awry.

Apparently, Princess Beatrice was pretending to knight James Blunt at a dinner party, when true to the British ceremony (which is traditionally performed by the Queen), she lifted the sword and grazed Sheeran's face.

"The blade cut into his face and it was just a few inches from his right eye," an anonymous source told The Sun. "A couple of the guests said it could have been worse and he could have been blinded in the eye, but Ed really played it down. Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident."

Beatrice, who is seventh in line to the British throne, was reportedly "inconsolable" about the whole incident.

The story is unconfirmed as of yet, but photos of Sheeran with a scar on his right cheek are already beginning to make the rounds on social media.
