Primary election voting in Monroe County: Here's what you need to know

A few day remain for early voting in the May 7, 2024, primary election. Early voting opened April 9 at Election Operations, the former NAPA building at 302 S. Walnut St.

Who is on the ballot for the Monroe County primary?

Monroe County voters can choose either the Republican or Democratic ballot and cast their vote for federal, state and county offices including contested Monroe County council and commissioner races.

The local contested race on the Republican ballot is for county commissioner District 3. Joe VanDeventer and Paul White Sr. are seeking the Republican Party nomination.

Contested races on the Democratic ballot include districts 2 and 3 for county commissioner. The Democratic ballot has incumbent Julie Thomas and Peter Iversen vying for the District 2 seat. Incumbent Penny Githens is facing challengers Jody Madeira and Steve Volan for the District 3 seat.

All voters, even those who do not live within the districts, can vote in the commissioner races on the ballot they choose.

The Democratic ballot also has a contested race for county council at-large, with four candidates for the three positions. Monroe County voters can choose three of the four candidates for the at-large positions on the county council. The candidates are Matt Caldie, Trent Deckard, David Henry and Cheryl Munson.

When is the early voting in Monroe County open?

Early voting continues 8 a.m.-6 p.m. May 1-May 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 4 and 8 a.m. to noon May 6, which is the final day for early voting.

Precinct polling sites will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 7 on Election Day.
