Pregnant woman recovering from shooting near Armature Works; suspect’s mother apologizes

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Josh and Jenny Brown took their 8-month-old baby Jaylynn out to lunch Tuesday, never imagining their quiet meal would be interrupted by the sound of gunfire.

Jenny is four months pregnant, an innocent mother caught in the crossfire Tuesday in the midst of a shooting near Armature Works

Her family told News Channel 8 that she was shot twice. She’s recovering from gunshot wounds on both of her legs.

Jenny spent Thursday in physical therapy, courageously working to walk again. She has a long road to recovery ahead, her family said.

Tampa police said the shooting all started with an argument between two groups of teenagers that quickly escalated and turned violent.

Gabriel Catuy, 17, was arrested and faces multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder. The state is working to charge him as an adult.

Catuy’s mother, Lidia, apologized Thursday, sending a video message to the victims.

“I just wanted to give my apologies to the victims and everyone that got hurt in this situation and this tragedy,” she said. “My son, I knew where he was.”

“He told me he was going to–” she said before she was cut off.

“Mom, mom, I’m so sorry to cut you off,” the woman said. “My name is Emily.”

“I work with the police office,” she continued. “If you don’t mind, if you could stop talking right now.”

“I just don’t want you to say anything that will accidentally get Gabriel in anymore trouble,” she added.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Tampa police told News Channel 8 they were “following promising leads regarding the second person of interest” Thursday.
