Boil water advisory lifted for Lower Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans announced the boil water advisory issued for the Lower Ninth Ward was lifted on Saturday, April 6.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officials with the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board are advising residents in the Lower Ninth Ward and surrounding areas to boil their water.

A precautionary boil water advisory was announced Friday, April 5 following a drop in pressure to below 20 pounds per square inch (psi). The drop in pressure was the result of crews performing a test closure to assess repairs to a 48-inch water main on Florida Avenue.

SWBNO officials said the advisory is for the entire Lower Ninth Ward and the area bounded by Montegut Street, The Intercoastal Waterway, Florida Avenue and Mississippi River.

They add that the pressure has been restored above 20 psi, but water quality samples are being collected and results may take up to 24 hours.

Residents impacted by the advisory are encouraged to use bottled water to drink, cook, clean food or brush their teeth until the Louisiana Department of Health advises that the water is safe.

Anyone using boiled tap water should bring the water to a rolling boil for a minute, according to SWBNO officials. Residents with a compromised immune system should contact their doctor for instructions.
