Prattsburgh man arrested on welfare fraud charges, over $8K stolen

PRATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WETM) – A Prattsburgh man has been arrested on welfare fraud charges after it was alleged that he stole over $8,000 from the Department of Social Services from June of 2021 to October of 2022.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Trampas J. Ridley, 47, of Prattsburgh, was arrested on Monday, March 4, after he allegedly presented false information to the Steuben County Department of Social Services with intent to steal for a little over a year.

As a result, Ridley ended up receiving a total of $8,685 in stolen funds.

Ridley has been charged with the following:

  • Offering a false instrument for filing in the fire degree, a class E felony

  • Welfare fraud in the third degree, a class D felony

  • Grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony

  • Falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony

He was summonsed to CAP court and released to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.
