‘Possible cabin odor’ prompts plane to return to Charlotte airport shortly after takeoff

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A plane traveling from Charlotte to Chattanooga had to return to Charlotte Douglas International Airport Monday shortly after takeoff.

According to an American Airlines spokesperson, American Eagle flight 5304, operated by PSA Airlines, with service from CLT to CHA, returned to the airport shortly after takeoff due to a maintenance issue. The crew reported a possible odor in the cabin.

The Bombardier CRJ-900 landed safely and the plane was taken out of service to be inspected by a maintenance team, American Airlines said.

“Customers will re-depart CLT on a replacement aircraft shortly. We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience,” American Airlines said.

First responders met the plane upon landing at CLT. No one was taken to the hospital.
