Portland Aerial Tram closes for maintenance over Memorial Day weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland Aerial Tram will be closed this weekend as crews perform routine maintenance.

The closure, which runs from Thursday night to Tuesday morning, will allow crews to shorten the tram’s haul rope, which officials said stretches over time and needs to be shortened every 18 months and fully replaced every six years.

The tram closure begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and lasts until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, over the Memorial Day weekend when officials said Tram traffic is typically lower.

During the closure, shuttles will be running between OHSU’s South Waterfront campus to their Marquam Hill campus with shuttles expected to arrive every 10 to 15 minutes.
