Pedestrian killed in crash along I-57 in Chicago

CHICAGO — A portion of I-57 in Chicago was closed on Sunday afternoon after a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash unfolded just after 2 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57, near West 99th Street, near Washington Heights.

Troopers say a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the area and was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the crash or if the pedestrian was walking along the highway at the time of the incident.

Due to the crash, northbound lanes of I-57 were closed while troopers conducted an investigation. All lanes reopened by 5:40 p.m.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim killed.
