1 seriously injured after motorcycle crash on I-290 West

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — One person was seriously injured after a motorcycle crashed into the back of another vehicle Saturday afternoon on I-290 westbound in Amherst, police announced.

Police said a 20-year-old male from Cheektowaga, while riding a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle, crashed into the rear end of a 2015 Honda around 11 a.m. between the Millersport Highway and I-990 exits.

The motorcyclist suffered serious back injuries, head injuries and a wrist injury. He was transported to ECMC by ambulance and there was no immediate update on his condition. The occupants of the Honda were uninjured.

No charges have been filed at this time in connection with the crash.

The incident shut down I-290 westbound between Exit 5 (Millersport Highway) and Exit 4 (I-990) for a little over three hours. The stretch of roadway reopened around 2:15 p.m., according to NITTEC.

The crash remains under investigation, and witnesses or drivers with dash-camera footage are asked to contact the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311.
