Port of New Orleans gets $7M to reduce truck emissions
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Port of New Orleans has received millions of dollars for sustainability efforts and the reduction of truck emissions.
According to a news release, Port NOLA has received a more than $7 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s Reducing Truck Emissions at Port Facilities program.

Organization leaders said the funding will go toward sustainable transportation and infrastructure aiming to reduce truck congestion and emissions at port terminals.
They said $200,000 of the funding will go to Port NOLA partners at Nunez Community College and the Urban League of Louisiana for “workforce development and educational opportunities for future technicians to work on the upcoming technologies.”
Additionally, seven electric terminal tractors and charging stations will be installed at Port NOLA terminal operators, Ports America Louisiana and New Orleans Terminal, LLC, through the funding.

Some of the funding will also be used to make pathways at the Louisiana International Terminal in St. Bernard Parish.
According to Port NOLA, “Entergy New Orleans will provide In-kind services and employee support for installation of the charging stations and infrastructure associated with this project. Up to $100,000 of the federal funding will be used for utility infrastructure upgrades.”
