UPDATE: Teen dies following Thursday crash in Port Huron

UPDATE: "The victim in this incident succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, May 11th. The Port Huron Police Department extends out sympathy to his family," the department said in a Monday press release. "This incident remains under investigation."

Port Huron Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a serious injury crash.

The crash was reported at 11:49 p.m. on Thursday. Witnesses reported that there was a 19-year-old man was lying in the roadway with serious injuries on the 2700 block of 24th Street.

Investigators found that the 19-year-old man had been holding onto a vehicle while skateboarding, fell and then struck the pavement. He sustained several facial and skull fractures. He was transported to McLaren Hospital in Macomb and is currently in serious critical care.

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.

The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash. Port Huron Road Patrol, Criminal Investigation Division, Accident Investigator, Port Huron Fire and Tri-Hospital EMS responded to the scene.
