Popular Dog Eye Wipes Recalled for Possible Bacteria Concerns

If your dog gets eye gunk or tear stains, you probably have used eye-wipes to help keep their eyes and the fur around their eyes clean before. These specially-formulated wipes are supposed to be safe for your dog's skin and sensitive eye area, helping to remove mucus, yucky eye boogers, discharge, and to keep the fur around their eyes looking clean and well-groomed.

One popular brand of eye wipes is now being recalled because when the dog eyelid wipes are open, bacteria and fungi can grow in the container and pose a risk of serious infection.

When it comes to our dogs and their eyeballs, it's always better to be safe than sorry and you don't want to take any chances when it comes to cleaning your dog's eyes.

Animal Eye Associates suggests keeping your dog's eyes clean by having the hair around your dog's eyes trimmed either by their groomer or by using a pair of blunt-nose scissors. One of the best ways that you can remove the mucus from your dog’s eyes is with a clean damp towel. Using warm water you can easily remove the gunk from your pup's eyes, but you should always use a clean towel and a gentle touch.

As far as the Bausch & Lomb wipe recall, The Consumer Product Safety Commission recall page states that :

When the recalled dog eyelid wipes are opened and in use, bacteria and fungi, which are organisms found widely in the environment, soil, and water, can be introduced and grow in the container, posing a risk of serious infection to people with weakened immune systems. Individuals with wounds may also be at higher risk of infection. People with healthy immune systems are not typically affected.

The website for the recall states that if you'd like a refund, you need to:
