Pope Francis will participate in the G7 summit in southern Italy later this year, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni announced in Rome on Friday.

The annual summit of leading industrialized countries – the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany – will be held in a luxury hotel in Apulia from June 13-15.

Italy currently holds the rotating G7 presidency.

The last G7 summit took place in the Japanese city of Hiroshima in May.
