Poll: Eddy County to spend $350M on a new courthouse. What facility would you invest in?

Eddy County sought to replace its historic Fifth Judicial District Court in the heart of downtown Carlsbad, opting to spend $350 million to build the new courthouse on National Parks Highway on the south side of town.

The topic was tabled during a recent Eddy County Commission meeting amid outcry from locals, several district judges and attorneys who argued the project would leave the historic building vulnerable to future demolition. They also contended court offices belonged in the central location they currently are in, near the corner of Mermod and South Canal streets.

Public interest was high for the project, and Eddy County scheduled multiple public townhall meetings in Carlsbad and Artesia to hear from its residents.
